Notes 10/31

Questions to ask: Focus too much on language-make it hard to understand the characters. Focus too much on characters make-it so easy to understand the language. Imagine a stage in front of your eyes. Think more details about the state( is it external or interior and etc). Ask about time. (Changes or stays the same? change by day? year? and etc) Ask about the climates on the planet. (weather conditions.) Ask about the mood in the play. Think about the tone of the play. Think about the answers to the questions above and relate it to the world you see. the social world of a play; Pay attention to the arrangement of the objects on this planet and try to find a pattern of it. How do the figures appear and compare them to the figures you see in the world. How do people dress in the play? Compare and contrast with the way you see people dress in the world. Think about the relationships among the figures and how that affected the interactions a...

Blog #7

Our group chose Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, Tybalt, Nurse, Mercutio, Lady Capulet, Lord Capulet, Prince and Paris to be in our cast. We chose Romeo and Juliet because they are the main characters in the play. If the play is put on without any main character, it will not make any sense to the audience. Moreover, Romeo and Juliet are the representatives of the two houses in the play. The relationship they have can compare and contrast with the relationship between the two houses to show the main conflict in the show-the hatred between Capulets and Montagues. We chose Friar Lawrence to join the cast because we think he is involved in most of the main events in the play: Romeo and Juliet’s marriage, plan with Juliet to fake the death and also to explain the truth to everyone in the end. We chose Tybalt and Mercutio to be in the cast because the fight between them not only showed the violent conflict between each other the most directly but also caused Romeo’s banishment. Because of Mer...

In class writing

In my opinion, Capulet, Juliet’s father is the person that’s the most at fault. Even though Romeo and Juliet’s decision led to their death, Capulet’s action led to most of these decisions. His carelessness to his child made Juliet so close to the nurse rather than her own parents. In the play, when Paris comes and ask to marry with Juliet, Capulet just told Paris how much he loves his daughter by saying “earth hath swallowed all my hope but she, she’s the hopeful lady of my earth.” However, he didn’t even go to Juliet to talk with her about Paris. Lady Capulet was talking to Juliet and she could only do it with the nurse by their side. This scene shows how much Juliet and her parents are just like strangers to each other while Capulet try’s so hard to show his great love to his daughter. Capulet’s love is only said but not done. Therefore, when Juliet likes Romeo, she could only say it to the nurse. Without her parents’ support, her relationship with Romeo can only be hidden. When Capu...

Play review for Les Miserable.

On October 7 th , I went to a musical drama for the first time. It is called Les Miserable at the Bushnell Center for The Performing Arts in Hartford. The director of the play is Brian Eads.             In the play, a salve called Jean Valjean finished his imprisonment of 16 years and went back to a normal life. However, no one would accept him because his ID shows that he was a prisoner. He was angry and hopeless until the Bishop of Digne provided him a shelter. He stole Bishop’s silver wears and ran away. When the police caught him and took him back to the Bishop, the Bishop said that he gave Jean Valjean the silver wears and forgot the silver candles. The bishop gave the silver candles to Jean Valjean and told him that his soul is saved. Jean Valjean changed his life since then and became a wealth mayor of a small town. In the town, he is also the owner of a factory. Fantine works at Jean’s factory. However...
