Respond to the presentations.

Nan Zhou Ms. Guarino IB Lit & Performance 22 Jan 2018 Ways of Acting In the class this week, all the members of our class shared their presentations about the famous actors/actress. These presentations introduced not only the actors and the actress themselves, but more focused on the acting technique they created. Some of them encourage people to imagine the situation that their characters are in and think what they did when they were in such a situation. There are also actors that led people to imagine what they would do if they are in the same situation. They don’t want people to put their own experience in acting because they think that is not good for the actors.  A few of these actors encouraged people to focus more on their body movements. However, by the end of the presentations, I had an struggle. Should people just imitate what they had seen or done when they are acting, or should they just imagine what might happen and be as creative as they can in their...

Review of the 4th Wall Performance

The Happiest Performers Last weekend, I went to see the performance of the 4th Wall group. I thought a lot after the performance. And these thoughts truly changed my way of understanding performances. Before the performance, we joined a workshop with the members in the 4th Wall Group. They were so energetic. In fact, I didn’t think they play was mostly classical music. Because in my mind, most classic music performers are somehow serious and formal. Nevertheless, after seeing their performance, I realized, the power of happiness they got during the process of performing kept them so energetic and passionate. The way 4th Wall that performs was very unique. They combine dance and music together to help people understand the context of the music they are playing. They also use different types of things to play the music instead of instruments to make the performance more entertaining. Seeing them dancing, jumping, running around had been somewhat nerves for me at first. I was worrie...

Proposal

My group is going to do the last fight scene of The Glass Menageries. I decided to do this scene because I think this scene is the climax of the play. When Jim leaves, he also brought Amanda's last light of hope with him. Amanda's fight with Tom finally pushed Tom away from his family and never to return. In this scene, Nia will be playing Amanda. David will be playing Tom. I will be playing Jim. We originally decided to have Amanda, Tom, and Laura in the scene. However, Laura only has one line in the whole scene. Therefore, we replaced Laura with Jim. We also decided to shorten the fighting conversation between Tom and Amanda. In that way, we can not only make sure each character has an equal amount of time to perform, but also focus on what the characters' feelings are in the scene. We think Tom's monologue is very important because it tells the audience what exactly he's thinking and also give the audience a direction of what is going to happen to the rest of the...

Classwork 01/08/18

1.I would like to explore Tom’s true attitude towards Amanda. Love? Sympathetic? Annoyed?  Frustrated?  Hate? 2.I would like to play the character of Tom or Amanda. 3.I would like to play the scene where Laura finds out Tom writes and then Tom and Amanda argues. 4.I want to know what does Tom truly feels when he says he made himself a slave. Is he mad, sad or asking Amanda to have mercy on him? Or he even wants Amanda to thank him a little bit. 5.If I play Amanda, I need to think about her emotion too. I want to know if she feels guilty for letting her son suffers so much or do she feels innocent and misunderstood. Does she feel sorry for Tom at all? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxf2-Fz7WS0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzZ_HYi7Mug https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBKqV0wvlyw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPFrdpWK864 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AehvtZmWgHw
