Review of the 4th Wall Performance
The Happiest Performers
Last weekend, I went to see the performance of the 4th Wall group. I thought a lot after the performance. And these thoughts truly changed my way of understanding performances. Before the performance, we joined a workshop with the members in the 4th Wall Group. They were so energetic. In fact, I didn’t think they play was mostly classical music. Because in my mind, most classic music performers are somehow serious and formal. Nevertheless, after seeing their performance, I realized, the power of happiness they got during the process of performing kept them so energetic and passionate.
The way 4th Wall that performs was very unique. They combine dance and music together to help people understand the context of the music they are playing. They also use different types of things to play the music instead of instruments to make the performance more entertaining. Seeing them dancing, jumping, running around had been somewhat nerves for me at first. I was worried if they will lose their breath or get to busy with their movements that they play wrong notes. However, it turns out that I worried too much. They didn’t mass up any notes. In addition to that, each of them showed great skill of playing the instruments as they perform.
However, it turns out that they are not some genius born talented. They are very hard-working. In order to put on a good show, they practice hours and hours. They challenge themselves a lot by learning to play another instrument for the performance and by thinking of the choreographies of the pieces by themselves.
I really respect musicians like them. They love music, and they create art. They try new ways to perform and tell people how great music is. For them, performing is not only their job but their passion. The audiences are not the only ones entertained by the performance. At least in my mind, the three performers are the happiest people at that moment.
