Blog post reflection on IA

Strength:
After watching the video of our performance, I noticed that both me and Aaron had good facial expression and body language throughout the performance. Emotion is a really important part of our performance since most of our lines are not spoken but rather sang. When we added the emotions to our performance, the plot can really make sense to the audience. It is hard to tell as I was on stage the whole time, however, as I view the video, I can notice how much the lighting helped us setting up the atomasphere we needed. For example, without anything on stage indicating the dead body of Guy, if the red light wasn’t there, the scene will be very confusing to watch because people wouldn’t just know that guy is dead. Also, the actual performance came out a lot better than the previous rehearsals because we had a speaker near us on stage and we were able to hear ourselves and the background music. A big thumb up for technology!
Weakness:
A big personal mistake for me on stage was that I massed up the lyrics of my French lullaby. I was a bit stressed after that. Also, after watching the video, I found my movements a lot quicker than I thought when I was on stage. For example, when I go closer to guys “dead body” I was intentionally moving slower, making sure all my facial expressions are gradual so that the audience and feel my emotions better. However, when I see myself in the video, the movements seemed almost a bit too fast and the emotions weren’t strong enough.
Improvements:
Firstly, I think I need to work on my body language more so that my movements on stage can be smoother and more diverses. For example, in the scene when little guy left home, instead of kneeling down on the ground, I could try to just clasp and end up sitting on the ground, showing the lack of energy caused by the extreme sadness. Working harder on the lyrics is another thing I should do. For musicals, audience not only get informations from the spoken lines, but also in the lyrics. I should enunciate each and every word more clearly for people to be able to understand it. Lastly, I really need to be more aware of my position on stage and the position of the camera/audience. In this performance, my face is still mainly facing towards guy. Most of the time, only half of my face is shown in the video. This concerns me because people can't really feel all the emotions that I’m pxressing by seeing just half of it.
