Hi, my name is Nan. When I introduce myself to others, I’m always very happy because I like my name a lot! I actually had a name called Coco until I found that I share this name with lots of my neighbor’s pets. It was so hard to find a name that can represent myself. Suddenly, a voice popped out in my mind: “Why not use my Chinese name as my English name as well?” Therefore, I got my name--Nan.
The first fun thing about me is that I have a brother. That’s actually quite unusual in Chinese families because of the One-Child Policy that China had for a long time. My brother is two years younger than me. Therefore, we always have a lot to talk with each other. We spent most of our childhood together. Because our parents are so busy, we learned to take care of each other very early. Wherever I go, my brother would always stick around, and I would always check on him as well. Now, because I’m studying in America, I can’t meet him as often anymore. The students in our school that are the same age of my brother always make me think of him. I think that’s also one of the reasons why I tend to take care of them:p
Secondly, I went to a private school in Hawaii for one and a half year before I came to Cheshire Academy. It was a Catholic school. And it was an all-girl school as well. Which is very different from here. Lots people asked me why I chose to transfer. Some of them even shouted to me, saying “Are you crazy?”. I understand why they said that because I do deeply understand how amazing Hawaii is and how people dream about going there all the time. Yes, Hawaii is great. However, it is more like a place for just relaxing and enjoying. After I had fitted into the English-speaking environment, I was ready to move on to other places that provide me more knowledge with a higher standard. So, here I am, in Cheshire Academy.
The third fun thing that I’d like to talk about myself is my passion towards music and food. I know it’s kind of weird to put these two things together to talk about them. But these are really the two things that I care a lot in my world. I love music. I like to sing whenever I’m stressed, happy or just suddenly feel like singing. I like to listen to music too. It’s what I’m doing right now as I write this blog. Music helps me to concentrate. I like to play music. I enjoy the feeling of actually play the music by myself and feel the movement of different instruments. In addition, good food would always make me happy. And finding new places to eat is the first thing that I do when I go to different places. I also find food sharing being a universal symbol of kindness and friendliness. There are just too many advantages of food that I want to keep on talking about!
To be honest, I joined this class because it has less paper to write than other classes. But as I keep knowing more about it, I get attracted more and more by it.This class gives students more time to understand the literature. I’m a slow reader. Having more time to read will be less stressful to me and provide me enough time to think about it. I want to learn how to express my understanding of the literature by performing it and expressing the emotions contained in it. I also want to learn how to see in the view of the characters inside of the stories and therefore think more deeply.
